Call to Worship
The Lord said to Moses and Aaron in the land of
Egypt,
This shall be a day of remembrance for you.
We will
celebrate it as a festival to the Lord throughout all generations.
For I received from the Lord
what I also handed on to you.
As
often as we eat this bread and drink this cup,
We
proclaim the Lord’s death, until he comes.

Silent Prayer / Pastoral Prayer / Lord’s Prayer
Our
Father who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name.
Thy kingdom come, thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us
our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us; and lead us not
into
temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom and the power
and the glory forever. Amen.

Litany
On that dark night, in that dark hour, no one
knew who he was.
Judas
who betrayed him did not know.
The leaders who tried him did not know.
Pilate
who condemned him did not know.
The soldiers who beat him did not know.
The
ones who drove the nails did not know.
The crowd that mocked him did not know.
The
crowd that ignored him did not know.
And Peter who denied
him, though he knew he should have known, did not know him.
As we
stand before the cross this night, O Lord, teach us who you are.

Postlude
“Seldom have the apparent fortunes of any
historical figure changed as quickly and dramatically as did those of Jesus in
the last week of his life.
The events of
the last twenty-four hours of Jesus’ life would test those closest to him, and
they would fail.
Judas would betray Jesus; Peter would
deny him; and the disciples would dessert him, leaving Jesus utterly alone as
he faced trial at the hands of his enemies.
But Jesus looked past their betrayal,
their sins, and their failures and called them his friends. We take comfort in
the knowledge that he will do that for us as well.”
