In response to the massive 8.9 magnitude earthquake that rumbled through northeast Japan on Friday, March 11 triggering a 33-foot tsunami wave, United Methodists and friends are urged to pray for the people of Japan during this crucial hour and support this emergency effort through giving.
The earthquake is the strongest to hit Japan in 140 years, and it is the fifth strongest in the world. The disaster caused widespread death and destruction including loss of homes and livelihoods. The crisis is intensified with the threat of nuclear radiation.
