One: And the Word became flesh and lived among us,

All:  and we have seen his glory,

         the glory as of a father’s only son, full of grace and truth.

One: For it is the God who said, “Let light shine out of darkness,”

             who has shone in our hearts

All:  to give the light of the knowledge of the glory of God

         in the face of Jesus Christ.

*Opening                 “O God, Our Help in Ages Past”                                    #117

*Opening Prayer

O God of all the nations,

  You manifested your love by sending your only Son into the world

     that all might live through him.

Pour your Spirit on your Church,

  that it may fulfill his command to preach the gospel everywhere;

send forth laborers into your harvest;

defend them in all dangers and temptations;

give them grace to bear faithful witness to you;

edue them with zeal and love, that they may turn many to righteousness;

through the same your Son, Jesus Christ our Lord, Amen.
